Looking for a luxury hotel in Adelaide’s CBD?
The Mayfair Hotel in Adelaide offers 4.5 star style and modern luxury close to Adelaide’s main attractions. Housed within the refurbished 1930’s heritage listed Colonial Mutual building, this boutique hotel’s façade has been kept intact thanks to a clever design by architects JPE Design. I chose to stay at this hotel to attend a close friend’s wedding.
Please take a look at my Hotel review in the Ultimate Travel Magazine.
Their rooftop bar
The Mayfair has one of the coolest rooftop bars and lounges in Adelaide – the Hennessy – named after the building’s original architect Jack Hennessy.
On the 13th floor guests and outsiders can enjoy a number of bar options, including an open-air terrace offering views over Rundle Mall and through to the Adelaide Hills.
I recommend the Hennessy Lounge’s signature cocktail: the Honey Trap. Described as a buzzing honey gingered caipiroska with honey-infused vodka, lime, ginger and mint (straight from the bar menu’s description.)
What makes this drink so unique? The honey is sourced from the Hotel’s beehives, located on the hotel roof, adjacent to the Hennessy bar. The Hotel applies sustainable techniques using the honey in the breakfast bar and in some dessert creations. Shame I had to leave early on Monday and miss out on a personal beehive tour!
I must also comment on the bed. It was one of the most comfortable I have slept on. When quizzing reception, I was given the intel on the mattresses! They tested 30 Australian designed mattresses before they agreed on and patented the Mayfair Luxury Mattress. In a clever marketing coup, guests can purchase the Hotel mattresses (and pillows if you desire!)
The Verdict:
With its unique design and amenities, the Mayfair Hotel is the perfect base from which to enjoy Adelaide. The proximity to the CBD makes it an ideal venue if in town for business or social activities. The quiet rooms and hallways are an indication this luxury boutique hotel has been designed with guest’s comfort in mind. After two nights I wanted more time to enjoy the Hotel and its amenities, but as often is the case, it was time to depart.
